WR DETASSELING LTD.â„¢

We would like to welcome your child to the 2024 Corn Detasseling season with WR Detasseling Ltd. We certainly hope that you and your family are healthy and coping well during this pandemic. Considering this serious health crisis, there are several important issues we would like to communicate to you regarding your child’s safety.

We are entering an unprecedented detasseling season during COVID-19. We, at WR Detasseling Ltd., have created a
safety plan to protect our workers while working closely with the Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit and following the Ministry of Labour, Occupational Health and Safety and the Workplace Safety and Prevention Services guidelines and recommendations for agriculture. We encourage you to please take the necessary time to review our website, including the COVID-19 Safety Plan and all other WR Policies and recommendations with your child before applying. An acknowledgement (check box) has been provided at the bottom of the application page, indicating your understanding and acceptance of our Detasseling and Deroguing Health and Safety Policy during COVID-19.

Your child is an employee of WR Detasseling Ltd. Please understand that WR Detasseling works for many different seed corn companies. For day-to-day details or any questions that you or your child may have — please contact WR Detasseling Ltd. Contact us via our website or Facebook.

Please send your child to work everyday they are requested to work! (Especially on week-ends) — Unfortunately the corn does not stop growing on the weekends! Our busiest days this year will most likely fall between July 10th and August 10th. If your child is unable to report to work on a given day, please contact the WR Administrators at 519-352-8889.

If it is raining (or even thunder-storming) the morning your child is requested to work, ALWAYS send them to work anyway. The rain makes the corn grow twice as fast and that means twice the work for us. These summer morning rains are quite common and they usually are finished by the time we get to the fields. We will not work in lightning or stormy conditions. We will wait in the safety of the school bus until the storm has passed.

Your child will be supervised by a mature adult WR supervisor, who is trained in First Aid and CPR, and has the health and safety of everyone in mind at all times. You can be assured that inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated.

Thank you for your time, understanding, and support of our safety policies. It is our ultimate goal to protect your children and our workers, as they work to provide this essential service in our community.
